"Ready to Pop" Baby Shower

Saturday night, I hosted a baby shower for my dear friend Marcia. Since we work for the same running store (she's the training program coach, and I do marketing), I invited the staff (guys and gals) as well as a few other friends we have through the store/running. The shower was held on a Saturday night at my house after the store closed so that everyone could attend. Strange time for a baby shower, I suppose, but it worked.

I googled some images a few months ago and found this theme and photo I wanted to attempt to replicate for the shower (I ran it by Marcia first, and she loved the idea). First things first, I found an invitation for inspiration, changed it up a bit and designed and printed something fairly similar. The silhouette image was only $3 from a stock image site, and I downloaded some fun fonts from dafont.com.

As for decor, I had been slowly getting things together over the past couple of months (which made it less stressful and overwhelming), and being the completely uncrafty person I am, I was really pleased with how it turned out! I do wish that I had been more diligent about taking pictures of everything, but oh well. Here are the details I did manage to capture.

The dining room was the first thing people saw when they came inside, and the table spread had everything related to "popping!"

On the "pop" table:
Popcorn Bar with peanut butter cup popcorn and white chocolate peppermint popcorn (Hampton Popcorn Company)
Individual caramel popcorn containers with personalized label on top (Hampton Popcorn Company)
Jar of pink bubble gum
Cake Pops. I couldn't find them at any local bakery, so I bought them in bulk from Starbucks. Also, just a hint, the cake pops are being held up by sugar packed in the container.
{Non-alcoholic} Blow Pop Martinis. I found the idea on this blog. Basically, it's just a blow pop in a martini glass with Sprite. The blow pop flavors and colors the Sprite.
Personalized lollipops

In the kitchen, there was more substantial food.

Food Buffet:
Fruit "pops"
Ham and swiss "pop"pyseed sandwiches (these were delicious)
Meatballs (not pictured)
Bacon "poppers" (not pictured, but a HUGE hit. My mom made these for the shower--thanks, Mom!-- with her own twist, but here is a very similar recipe.)
Knorr spinach dip (not pictured)
Cupcakes from Muddy's Bake Shop
Vegetable tray

Drinks:
Spiked and unspiked punch
Wine
Beer
Sodas
Coffee

There weren't any games planned, so after everyone ate, they got right to opening gifts.

There was also a bulletin board inviting people to leave advice and wishes for the new parents. Toward the end of the night after most people left, we enjoyed hearing the funny and sweet comments that people wrote.

All in all, a wonderful time. And I cannot wait for baby Claire to be here next month and spoil her rotten!

You did an outstanding job on everything, “From DC-To-Light.” The Ham & Swiss "Sliders" were worthy, certifiable “Man Food” for the testosterone-fueled attendees.
