Hardest 5.5 Miles EVER

Sunday afternoon, Kristy and I did a cross country race that was sponsored/put on by the running store I work for. Some of you may have run cross country in high school/college, but this was European-style cross country. For starters, it was a 9k. Apparently *true* cross country isn't run in specific distances like 5k, 10k, etc. It's just an arbitrary course. So, for this race, we did six 1.5K loops. Second of all, European-style cross country also involves lots of obstacles...jumping over logs, etc., so this race mimicked that by having logs/hay bales/etc. to jump over.
Let me tell you. Those 5.5-ish miles were about as hard as last weekend's marathon! I love running on trails, but this was out in open grass. And running in the grass, my friends, is tough! Add some hills and obstacles, and you've got yourself quite a tough course. I mean, I was worn. out. Three loops in, I was ready to call it a day. Luckily, I had Kristy with me, and we pushed each other to finish it.

And, might I add, we were 2 of only 8 women who were out there. #ToughChicks
9K Cross Country Race: 56:32
Not too shabby! What a fun, yet hard race!

Is it bad that that sounds terrible and awesome all at once? Because that's what it sounds like. Hopefully we'll be getting to run a race together again soon :)
