Sunday morning, I ran the Road Race Series Half Marathon in Memphis. I ran the same race last year, and until recently, last year's time was my PR (2:04:45).
I headed to the race and met up with one of my running buddies, Libby.
We warmed up for a few minutes and then headed to the start line. The course is an out and back, which is nice, but it's extremely boring. It's also fairly flat with a few rolling hills, but of course, there's an uphill from about mile 11-12.5. Awesome.
Libby and I stayed together until about mile 11. She was feeling great, so I told her to go ahead, and I just happened to meet up with Caroline who was running her first half. We ran mile 11 together, and then I felt a burst of energy and did 12-13 on my own. By the way, Caroline was rocking her race...especially considering it was her first half!
Not going to lie, my hamstrings were super tight from about 10-13, but I pushed through it and kept up my pace.
Note to self: Do A LOT of stretching between now and St. Jude.
I can't believe ALL of my miles were under a 9 min/mile. Speedwork has definitely paid off this year!
Stats:
Official time: 1:56:35
Average pace: 8:54
Age group: 8/32
Overall: 202/655
