Weekend Race #1: 5K PR

I ran the Elvis 5K this morning, and it might be my favorite race to date. I ran the same race in 2009...prior to when I actually started running (my cousin who is with the Special Olympics was the honored guest that year, so I ran to support him), and it was a terrible, terrible morning. Like miserable. I had no idea how far a 5K really was, but I knew a lot of people ran 5K's, so I thought I would be okay. Wrong. By .25, I was wishing I had stayed at home in bed. When I finished (in 39:10), I swore I would never run again. You see how far that got me...

Anyway, the race was really fun this year and the weather was awesome. I was excited to try out the same course as my very first race to see how far I had come.

Despite not getting much sleep the night before, I ran a PR by 15 seconds! 

And that ripped chick next to me would be my speedy friend Marcia. She was the overall female winner and ran it in, get this, 19:21. Talk about fast...

And just in case you need some weekend entertainment. Worst race picture ever. I was trying to wave but he caught me at the wrong moment.

There was a great post-race party, and everyone seemed to have a blast. Definitely a great 5K if you're in the Memphis area!

Headed to date night soon and then another race in the morning. I've never done a 5-mile race, so either way, it will be a PR :)
