Another (tiny) PR

I ran another 5K this weekend, the second 5K in the Road Race Series that I'm doing. I was hoping for another PR, and I *barely* made it happen.

I ran with my friend Mary, Kristin (congrats on a big PR!) and Caroline (so nice to finally meet you)!

I ended up doing 3.1 miles in 26:22 (previous best time was 26:24).

Although I'm thrilled with a PR, it was not my morning for running. First of all, I realized when I got to the start line that I forgot to take my inhaler before I left the house (I have exercise-induced asthma). So running in super high humidity made me feel like I couldn't breathe. Plus, I had to use the restroom before the race started, but the porta potty lines were so long that I decided to wait. And my stomach wasn't happy the entire race.

Oh, well. Another race in the book, and improved my time by a couple of seconds. There's always another race!

Stats:
Official time: 26:22
20/77 Age group
342/1111 Overall

Congrats! A PR is always great, regardless of it being a small improvement or a large one! They keep us motivated, no?

My runs have been hijacked by my dog. With my kids home for the summer and a husband who is away all week, I had to choose to either run solo and deal with a hyper dog at 4pm every day OR take the dog and have to stop for pee and poopie stops as well as a quick dip in the river at mile 2 to ensure she doesn't over heat. But, I've been using map my run and think after looking at the stats that I can almost consider these speed workouts. Amazing how fast I can turn over the legs when being pulled along the road!

You've inspired me to start keeping track of my own running publicly on my blog http://preppymeetsredneck.blogspot.com/

I came back to running after a few years away dealing with illness. I was not pushing myself to improve. Putting it out there for the world (ok, actually just friends at this point!) to see is highly motivating to make strides. I thank you for being the impetus!

Keep up the good work and be careful with your asthma!
